Practices and Performances
My Pet Peeves
- Be Positive: You are responsible for the energy you bring into the classroom, and the attitude you bring to your learning. You will often find that you get what you give.
- Be Prepared: Education is an opportunity. You need mentally and physically prepared to learn and work hard.
- Be Polite: Treat adults and peers with respect. Use language that is kind. Lead by action, not by mouth.
Procedures
- Passes: You must have permission and a pass to leave the room. Use your best judgement when asking to leave. For example, do not ask to leave during the middle of direct instruction or group work. You will not be written a pass to leave during the first or last 10 minutes of the class period.
- Tardies: Enter the room quietly. Do not draw attention to yourself. Sign-in on the tardy sheet. If you have a pass, put it in the basket. Go to your seat quietly. If you arrive tardy, you will not be allowed to leave the rest of the period.
- Absences: Always check Classroom for any missed activities or assignments. Arrange a time before or after school to receive missed instruction or extra help.
- Attendance and the Grading Policy: Our district grading policy states that after 10 absences/tardies your grade for the class will be changed to a Pass/Failure status.
Technology
- Computers: You will need your Chrome on a daily basis. Bring it and bring it charged! Your computer belongs to the school and should be used for school only. If we are doing work that is not on the computer, Chromes should be lids down or put away.
- Cell Phones: Cell phones need to be put away during class. Games and texting will distract our class and slow us down. If I deem it a distraction from your learning, you will be asked to put it Out of Sight and Out of Reach, until the end of class.
- Headphones: Again, I ask that you keep them put away during class. Even having one earbud in will prevent you from being an active member of our classroom. It shuts you out from our conversations. However, keep a set of earbuds in your purse or backpack- there will often be times that I ask you to view something independently that does require headphones.
Practices and Performances
- Everything is Important: Whether it’s a practice assignment or a performance, everything we do is important. I don’t make you do anything that will not help you show competence on the course standards.
- Practice grades in English make up 49% of your overall grade....Performance grades are 51%. This means practice grades impact on your grade nearly as much as a Performance. ALL GRADES MATTER!
- Repeating Performances: If you fail a performance assignment, you will need to complete all practices at a proficient level in order to take the performance again. Also, remember there is now only 1 retake allowed and that retake can be lowered one letter grade.
My Pet Peeves
- Offensive Language: Keep obscene and demeaning words and language out of our classroom. When in doubt, don’t let it out of your mouth.
- Dishonesty: Few things hold as much value in this world as your word. Do not lie or “stretch” the truth. Make sure your work reflects your own learning and knowledge and is not plagiarized from other sources.
- Unprepared For Class: That means you need to have the proper supplies: your Chrome, paper, and pencil will be used every day...don’t walk in empty handed.
